Why Everybody Loves WordPress

Did you know that WordPress powers more than 30% of all sites?

Millions of sites run on WordPress, from Sony, CNN, and Mashable to perhaps even your local baker’s site.

When it comes to popularity, there’s no shadow of a doubt that WordPress is miles ahead of other popular content management systems like Drupal and Joomla. Reports show a whopping 50% of CMS users prefer to build their sites on WordPress. For Drupal and Joomla, this figure is 17% and 6.44%. As far as blogging is concerned, WordPress is home to at least 60 million blogs, and the number is likely to continue growing.

But what makes WordPress so irresistibly popular?

For starters, with WordPress, building a site is a cinch. You can create one within 5 minutes. Plus, you can use WordPress even if you don’t know what an HTML tag is.

Secondly, you can easily give your site a personal touch by picking a suitable theme and improves its usability and performance by installing necessary plugins. The official WordPress directory contains more than 55,000 plugins, many of which are absolutely free.

That said, go easy on the plugins. Every installed plugin takes server space, and too many of them might hamper your site’s performance. So install only those plugins that you really need.

Thirdly, you can build a functional site for absolutely free. The WordPress software, which you can download from WordPress.org, is completely free, as are a number of WordPress themes and plugins.

What’s more, if you want, you can even host your site for free on WordPress.com. However, free sites get only limited space, up to 3 GB. Moreover, WordPress will place free ads on your sites, which may not go down so well with your viewers.

Additionally, you can’t upload any additional plugins or themes. You will have to use the default plugins and select one of the free or premium available themes. Finally, you will not be able to monetize your site if you continue to host it for free on WordPress.com.

Nevertheless, there’s a free hosting option available if you want to take it.

But even without free hosting, WordPress is a great option for all budding bloggers and online marketers.
